We are pleased to present a new Virtual Issue featuring the latest microbiology research on SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19. This is a free-to-read collection featuring articles from across the FEMS Journals. It aims to provide high quality and up to date research, including work on the development of vaccines during the time of COVID-19 (which was also covered in the FEMS Webinar series), RNA respiratory viruses: influenza and coronaviruses, and long-term and herd immunity against SARS-CoV-2.

The 2020 Journal Impact Factors™, as calculated by Clarivate Analytics, were recently announced. Most of the FEMS journals had a noticeable increase:

• FEMS Microbiology Letters: 2.742

• FEMS Microbiology Reviews: 16.408

• FEMS Yeast Research: 2.796

• Pathogens and Disease: 3.166

FEMS and the Serbian Society for Microbiology are happy to announce the next FEMS Conference on Microbiology, which will take place from 30 June to 2 July 2022 in Belgrade, Serbia.

Our commitment at FEMS is to support microbiologists with their work, promote the best in microbiology research to the world, and bring microbiologists together. This event supports that commitment: giving high value for money at a low registration fee, it opens possibilities for networking and exchanging knowledge and experiences.

The FEMS Conference on Microbiology, a new FEMS event format, is organized in close collaboration with the respective local regional society. The FEMS Online Conference 2020 has already been successfully organized in collaboration with the Serbian Society for Microbiology (SSM) as an ONLINE format.

Be part of this event, where intercontinental, European, regional, and local scientists from all stages in their career and from all demographical backgrounds can participate in a multifaceted conference.

At World Microbe Forum, 12 outstanding iPosters from Early Career Scientists won the iPoster prize. Further, the FEMS journals selected five of the best iPosters at the Forum. These were chosen from the more than 2000 posters available to view. You can read an interview with the winners by clicking on their names!

Meeting Attendance Grants (MAG) enable early career researchers to attend microbiology meetings worldwide to network, collaborate and keep abreast of new developments in their field. As an increasing number of conferences, society meetings and congresses are moving into online events, FEMS has opened the Meeting Attendance Grants (MAG) to support both virtual and in-person meetings. Support is limited to a maximum of € 600. Deadline: 1 September 2021.

As an increasing number of conferences, society meetings and congresses are moving into online events, FEMS has opened the Meeting Organizer Grants (MOG) to support both virtual* and in-person meetings. Members of any FEMS Member Society that are preparing to organize (or co-organize) an online microbiology event to be held between 1 June 2022 and 31 May 2023 are eligible to apply. Support up to EUR 15,000 per event is available. Deadline: 1 December 2021 for meetings taking place between 1 June 2022 and 31 May 2023.
