Communication Awardee: Joanna Verran The Science Communication Award recognizes inititiators of campaigns that contribute significantly to the public discourse about science and evidence. We are pleased to announce this year’s winner of the Science Communication Award: Dr Joanna Verran Joanna Verran who has founded the Bad Bugs Bookclub has distinguished herself to general public education and science communication and has significantly contributed to FEMS education and communication work. The Bad Bugs Bookclub is an example that is unique in science communication and is used in microbiology education as well. The funding of the Science Communication Award will allow the Bad Bugs Bookclub to expand its outreach to both adults and young readers. FEMS-ASM Mäkelä-Cassell Travel Award for Early Career Scientists Awardee: Dr Paul Solis-Reyes The FEMS-ASM Mäkelä Cassell Award has been designed to benefit early career scientists from both organizations by giving them the opportunity to present their work overseas and experience the best of microbiology in the partner country. This award has been granted to Paul Solis-Reyes for his abstract on The Role Of I203M And I208L On Raltegravir Resistance In Ugandan HIV-1.
