Industry Placement Grants

These grants allow Early Career Scientists to acquire experience in industry with the financial support of FEMS. Max support €5000.

Applicants should be active microbiologists and be members of a FEMS Member Society. All industries qualify, including non-laboratory research, as long as relevant for microbiology.

Application deadline: 1 February 2023

Research and Training Grants

These grants assist Early Career Scientists to carry out placements in another country. Max support €5000.

Zala Kogej from the National Institute of Biology (Slovenia) did a 3 month research placement at INRAE (France) -  "The FEMS Research and Training Grant gave me an opportunity to meet new researchers, get new ideas and push my work to a next level"

PRESS RELEASE: Identification of European isolates of the lager yeast parent Saccharomyces eubayanus

A new paper in FEMS Yeast Research, reports that for the first time in Europe, scientists have discovered the ancestor of the yeast species necessary for the production of lager beer.

Recognizing and celebrating excellence in microbiology every year
Nominate for our Outstanding Early Career Microbiologist Award

This Award aims to recognize Early Career Researchers that have realized an excellent body of (published) research and research potential. The nomination can be based on a single exceptionally significant achievement or the aggregate of a number of exemplary achievements.

Prof Kenneth Timmis is the FEMS-Lwoff Awardee 2023

Timmis was selected for the award for his contributions to the field of environmental microbiology and advocacy of microbiology literacy. He is the lead author of the paper ‘The urgent need for microbiology literacy in society’ and created and leads the International Microbiology Literacy Initiative, coining the phrase ‘Microbiology literacy needs to become part of the world citizen job description’.
