International Microorganism Day

IMD this year was a fantastic success! Event Organizers across the globe put together over 60 events highlighting the beneficial roles of microbes.

There is even more to celebrate! Our official hashtag appeared nearly 6 million times online, and over 30 thousand people have visited our website and blog section!

FEMS Summer School for Postdocs

Our Summer School brought together 22 postdoctoral scholars from around the world to explore the potential of cutting-edge microbial technologies for a sustainable future.

The Summer School enriched knowledge and encouraged collaboration, sparking new ideas for a more sustainable industrial future and fostering long-lasting connections amongst the participants.

FEMS2023

We are very glad to announce that the FEMS2023 Abstract book has been published, featuring over 1200 scientific abstracts.

There were so many fascinating projects and pieces of research on show in Hamburg this Summer.

FEMS Journals News
FEMS Journals Move to Open Access
 

All but one of our journals are becoming fully Open Access by 1 January 2024. New papers submitted to these journals from 1 September 2023 are entered into the Open Access pipeline.

We believe that Open Access is key in supporting our mission of sharing high quality microbiology research as widely as possible – and Open Access means that no-one needs to pay to read these articles published in our Open Access journals.

#FEMSmicroBlog: Characterizing the gut eukaryome of African children

Historically, eukaryotes in the human gut were considered harmful to their hosts. However, over the years, the hypothesis emerged that gut eukaryotes could be beneficial for human health. 

A recent paper in microLife sheds light on the eukaryotic members of the human gut microbiome, helping to evaluate their role of in health. More in this blog.

We invite you to submit your research in our Thematic Issue on Microbial Stress in the Anthropocene.

This thematic issue delves into the molecular mechanisms of stress responses in microorganisms, their implications for bioproduction systems, adaptations to extreme natural environments and climate change, plant-microbe interactions in soil, and the complexities of human-microbe interactions.
