On 8 September, Antonio Ventosa was elected as FEMS President unanimously by the FEMS Council. His 3-year term will take place from 2024 to 2026. We wish to thank outgoing FEMS President, Hilary Lappin-Scott, for her extraordinary service during the last 4 years.

We are looking for a new volunteer Journal Social Media Editor (JSME). Their role will be to read the latest microbiological research published in our journal FEMS Microbes, and produce well-made social media posts about these papers for our audience on X (formerly Twitter) & Facebook. The JSME will also be in charge of day to day activity on the @FEMSMicrobes X account.

Legionella bacteria often reside in biofilms in plumbing systems of buildings. Here, they interact with other microbes, influencing positively or negatively their survival or proliferation. The study “Legionella relative abundance in shower hose biofilms is associated with specific microbiome members” in FEMS Microbes found that Legionella is not the only issue of contaminated shower hoses, as explained by Alessio Cavallaro and Frederik Hammes in this interview.
