In light of the continued uncertainty regarding Covid-19 and travel, FEMS has decided to move the FEMS Council meeting entirely online this year. FEMS Council will therefore take place online on Friday 3rd September.

We still have an interesting agenda and lots to discuss, so please register your attendance via the form below. Council papers and agenda will be issued shortly after your registration.

While the circumstances mean we will sadly not be able to meet in person again this year, we still look forward to seeing you on screen again in September.

FEMS Conference on Microbiology – Save the date!

FEMS and the Serbian Society for Microbiology are happy to announce the next FEMS Conference on Microbiology, which will take place from 30 June to 2 July 2022 in Belgrade, Serbia.

Our commitment at FEMS is to support microbiologists with their work, promote the best in microbiology research to the world, and bring microbiologists together. This event supports that commitment: giving high value for money at a low registration fee, it opens possibilities for networking and exchanging knowledge and experiences.

The FEMS Conference on Microbiology, a new FEMS event format, is organized in close collaboration with the respective local regional society. The FEMS Online Conference 2020 has already been successfully organized in collaboration with the Serbian Society for Microbiology (SSM) as an ONLINE format. Yet again, the FEMS Conference in Belgrade 2022 relies on its high-end scientific profile and combined expertise of FEMS and SSM in successfully organizing global and SEE regional scientific events and we are looking forward to a great experience for all involved.

Be part of this event, where intercontinental, European, regional, and local scientists from all stages in their career and from all demographical backgrounds can participate in a multifaceted conference.

iPoster awards at World Microbe Forum

At World Microbe Forum, 12 outstanding iPosters from Early Career Scientists won the iPoster prize. Further, the FEMS journals selected five of the best iPosters at the Forum. These were chosen from the more than 2000 posters available to view:

Shamsunnahar Mukta (Bangladesh): Biochemical characterization and biodegradation (plastics) assay of bacteria isolated from pit soil of Sylhet region

George Michail (Greece): S. proteamaculans and S. liquefaciens spp. isolated from subterrestrial karst aquatic ecosystem demonstrate substantial antifungal activity

FEMS journals – new impact factors

The 2020 Journal Impact Factors™, as calculated by Clarivate Analytics, were recently announced.

Most of the FEMS journals had a noticeable increase:

· FEMS Microbiology Ecology: 4.194

· FEMS Microbiology Letters: 2.742

· FEMS Microbiology Reviews: 16.408

· FEMS Yeast Research: 2.796

· Pathogens and Disease: 3.166

Thematic Issue on C1 Metabolism

We are pleased to announce the publication of the latest Thematic Issue of papers from FEMS Microbiology Letters on C1 Metabolism.

ICY15 meets ICYGMB30 - ONLINE

The 15th International Congress on Yeasts (ICY) and the 30th International Conference on Yeast Genetics and Molecular Biologs (ICYGMB30) is to be held online from August 23 to 27, 2021.

The conference is intended to attract all yeast researchers in all fields.

Grants Corner

Meeting Attendance Grants (1 September)

Members of FEMS Member Societies can apply for our grants. Meeting Attendance Grants enable early career researchers to attend microbiology meetings worldwide to network, collaborate and keep abreast of new developments in their field.

Support is limited to a maximum of € 600.

Meeting Organizer Grants (1 December)

Members of FEMS Member Societies can apply for our grants. FEMS supports selected meetings within the European Area with a Meeting Organizer Grant. Scientific conferences, laboratory workshops and training courses, including online, will be considered for such support.

The maximum amount of a Meeting Organizer Grant is € 15,000.
